Abstract:
R, the open-source software environment for statistical computing and graphics, is becoming the lingua franca of data analysis and allows the cross-platform integration of computational components written in R, C, C++, Fortran, etc.. Massive repositories of packages covering many fields of research in Computational sciences have emerged. Biocep is a platform that makes R run as a server on Grids and Clouds and enables users to easily connect and work interactively with remote R computational engines. The virtualized engines are piloted via an extensible cross-platform workbench that enables collaboration among several users. A server-side collaborative spreadsheet is built-in, has full integration with R functions and data and can be mirrored to excel spreadsheets. The Platform is already operational; an early prototype has been deployed successfully on the National Grid Service. Amazon Machine Images are available and allow R users to upload their data, process it and collaborate in the cloud.
